Heh, my dad used to be a chemical engineer and I was thinking about studying to be an electrical engineer at college/university.

Anyway, I think this case is sweet, it looks so authentic.

No I have not finished this. It has gotten severely side tracked because I cannot figure out a cost effective way to build the Lens Retaining ring and a way to attach the faceplate to the case.

Hopefully I will get motivated (ie. be able to part with my money) enough to finish it (and probably get it some new hardware).

Necropost!!!

So I ended up getting a 3D printer during the pandemic... and decided to finish my dream of a HAL9000 PC.

HW - nothing too special - was the remains of my old mini HTPC/Gaming machine:
3570K
Asrock Z77-ITX

Spoilers... its still not *finished* but much more finished than the 2U project was as a HAL9000 model.
The case being printed:

Initial assemby (using HSF from original build):

measurements for duct (and the low profile cooler I ended up going with):

The duct installed:

Case finished:

Faceplate attached (with 3d printed Nameplate... was going to get a decal made, but when you get a 0.2mm nozzle you gotta try):
This is a little out of temporal order, since I finished the faceplate first, then decided to make a case for it.

TODO:
-The SDD is still just floating unattached in there. A bracket has been made (seen at the bottom of the last picture below Ganesha), just don't want to add a part I'll just have to take out when...
-Making the lens glow when the PC is turned on and slowly fade when its turned off. A circuit has been designed, but it requires cutting into the always on lines on the power supply and I don't want to go doing that willy-nilly
