I was thinking about my friends x-box and how he could turn it into a fully operational computer and began wondering if i could do the same with my PSX. I know its not much but it puts out little heat and would fit inside my existing case with a lil shoehorning. The idea here is to run it with the 'nix that works from a CD, or somehow getting a version of 'nix that would work on a mem card. The idea here would be just a little bit of an extra computer to do little things like host teamspeak or sumthing. I am wonder what would be needed to do this? Im assuming some form of mod chip? Hopefully i could find the drivers somewhere but it would always be a fun project to write them myself. I just had this idea and was wondering what everone here thought about it.

EDIT: P.S. I am curious as to the modding capabilities of a CAD operated plasma cutter. The uncle of a friend of mine has one of these bad boys and i might have the opportunity to get a window cut. How intricate of a design can these things cut? How clean is the cut? Would i have to repaint the side after the cut (if the cut was made from the inside)

Are you wondering if the PSX can run an operating system? I highly doubt it could...I've seen "custom made" discs that have a lot of different games for a different platform on a CD (and by golly it played) so there must be some sort of way to make something for them...but running a full-fledged OS? I really doubt it.

And about the plasma cutter....I have seen very intricate designs with a water jet (64thunderbolt :)) It looked like a really clean cut but it may have needed a little bit of sanding but I am not sure. You may want to throw him a PM (64thunderbolt :p) on the forums.

Good luck if you do find a way to do it and be sure to tell us :D

as for the plasma cutter, i have no where near the ammount of money it would require to commission a waterjet cut side panel from 64 thunderbolt, but a friends uncle has a cad plasma so that would be my only option if i wanted to go that rout. What i am worried aobut is the heat of the plasma melting the panel.

it should be able to do a somewhat intricate design and I would think it shouldn't melt the panel. Now as for now having to repaint that might be a different story as I would think the edges around the cut would get pretty hot. I would think this is best for rough pieces like before painting I could be wrong though.

Im not sure about the PSX, but if you dont get it to work I know it can be done with a dreamcast. Plus Dreamcasts are mighty small ya know. And you would need a mod chip or boot disc no matter what. Im pretty sure it is impossible though.

yeah i take back my former post. If you ge tlinux on it, remember the PSX has a 33mhz cpu (Or so Ive read...) so use would be limited....

hrm, 33mhz sounds like more trouble than its worth, i was hopeing it would at least be 66 or some late 486 to pentium 1 speed, grr. O well, it was an idea, maybe just playing GT2 for old times sake is enough out of the thing.
