NinjaZX6R asked a pretty good question here and I felt it was worthy of a poll, so rather than hack his thread to bits trying to squeeze one in I decided it might be better to start a new thread with a poll in it. So, for those who watercool and use a pump, do you leave your pump on for the full 24/7 (or very near that) or do you shut it off regularly?

Pump on all the time, computer on all the time. the only time i turn of the pump is when I have to mess with (like unplug) one of my hoses other then that its always going.

when my computers off at night the pump goes off. though this would be a different story if/when i had my own room...

I have 4 water cooled systems running 24/7.

One of them has been running for about two years now: Eheim 1048 pump has had only one problem and that was me breaking a tab from the front of the pump housing. (I cable-tied it together until a replacement came in so that I could keep it running.)

I shut mine off at bedtime too. I'm terrified of a leak that will ruin my sytem in the middle of the night. I just dont have the $ to go replacing stuff. Better safe than sorry.

BTW, it is hard on the pump when you start it up and it gurgles and spurts trying to work out the air. It may be better off to leave it run if your sure it's not gonna leak at the worst possible moment (ANYTIME).

if it hasnt leaked during the day i dont think it will start at night unless you changed something in which case you should have done the proper leak protocol

Regular inline pumps aren't made to be turned off and on frequently. They are meant for 24/7 use so I leave mine on all the time unless I'm away for a week and not going to be using my pc.

i have a 50gal fish tank and i turn off the filter pump at night
i'm sorry, but i can't sleep at night with the thought of something on with potiental of something going wrong (obsesive-compulsive?.. maybe) you'd have to strap me down with chains to leave my pump on 24/7
