Hey all,

Finally waited for Skylake to come & decided that Haswell-E is the way to go after seeing no real gain in 6700k line. So below is the build that I've finalized & buying all my components from Dubai (UAE). It's expensive to buy everything together so I want to get your thoughts on the below config & break it up on parts & purchase my next 3 months.

CPU Intel Core i7-5930K Processor (15M Cache, up to 3.70 GHz)
Cooler Corsair H110i GTX Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler
Mobo Asus RAMPAGE V EXTREME/U3.1 LGA 2011-v3 Intel X99
Mem Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 2666MHz - Black
GPU ASUS GeForce GTX 980 Ti STRIX 6GB GTX 980 TI-6Gd5
SSD Samsung 850 Pro 256GB x 2units (Raid 0)
HDD WD Black 4TB SATA 6 Gb/s, 7200 RPM, 64MB Cache
Case Corsair Vengeance C70 Mid-Tower Gaming Case - Military Green
PSU Corsair AX1200i 80+ Platinum Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply
KB Corsair Vengeance K70 RGB Mechanical - Cherry MX Red
MS Asus ROG Gladius Wired Optical Mouse
DISP Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q 144hz 27" Monitor

Look forward to hearing from people using similar systems or knowledge in the same. I might buy a second 980Ti Strix 6-8months from now when the price is down.

Thanks in advance
Paul

Budget: $4000
Main uses of intended build: Pure Gaming/Overclocking
Parts required: Mentioned Above
Previous build information (list details of parts):
Monitor resolution: 1440p
Storage requirements: 4tb + Raid 0 256 GB
Will you be overclocking: yes

Not sure why you need a Rampage unless you're going sub-zero.
Only 2666MHz on the RAM?
I'd get the ACER XB270HU instead of a ROG SWIFT.
Go for a single Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SSD, no gain from going to the PRO or RAID0 for daily uses.
The PSU is massively overkill. If you want enough room to go SLI and overclock, get an EVGA SuperNova G2 850W.
Consider Swiftech instead of Corsair, their WC components are massively better.

HI all,

Thanks for all the inputs.

I'm choosing 5930k is because of dual SLI in future & it would support 16x16x on 2 cards instead of 16x8x in 5820k.

Also I saw reviews of 5820k vs 5930k & it seems like the 5930k wins mostly in 1440p single or dual SLI cards like 980 ti.

Samsung 850 Pro 256GB
WD Black 2TB SATA 6 Gb/s, 7200 RPM, 64MB Cache
SeaSonic Platinum SS-860XP2 860W ATX12V
Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (4x4GB) DDR4 2666MHz - Black

RAM - I'm thinking of going with the corsair instead of Gskill because corsair 16gb 4x4 2666mhz is cheaper here in Dubai, UAE than the Gskill counterpart.

Let me know your thoughts on the final spec below.

Intel Core i7-5930K Processor (15M Cache, up to 3.70 GHz)
Corsair H110i GTX Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler
Asus RAMPAGE V EXTREME/U3.1 LGA 2011-v3 Intel X99
Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (4x4GB) DDR4 2666MHz - Black
ASUS GeForce GTX 980 Ti STRIX 6GB GTX 980 TI-6Gd5
Samsung 850 Pro 256GB
WD Black 2TB SATA 6 Gb/s, 7200 RPM, 64MB Cache
Corsair Vengeance C70 Mid-Tower Gaming Case - Military Green
SeaSonic Platinum SS-860XP2 860W ATX12V
Corsair Vengeance K70 RGB Mechanical - Cherry MX Red
Asus ROG Gladius Wired Optical Mouse
Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q 144hz 27" Monitor

It seems like you didn't read my post at all...
Your spec list literally didn't change from the original post.

Hey man

How about this spec.

Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (4x4GB) DDR4 2666MHz - Black
ASUS GeForce GTX 980 Ti STRIX 6GB GTX 980 TI-6Gd5
Samsung 850 EVO 250GB
WD Black 2TB SATA 6 Gb/s, 7200 RPM, 64MB Cache
Corsair Vengeance C70 Mid-Tower Gaming Case - Military Green
SeaSonic Platinum SS-860XP2 860W ATX12V
Corsair Vengeance K70 RGB Mechanical - Cherry MX Red
Asus ROG Gladius Wired Optical Mouse

You didn't bother to respond to any of ATM's suggestions/questions regarding your build:

All things that I completely agree with.

I just had a look and I don't think the 280mm rad will fit in the case you have selected. Check the swiftech H220x or if you prefer Corsair go back to the first one you posted but make sure you stay at or below 240mm. Like ATM said that Rampage board is a big waste of cash unless you are a serious overclocker and plan on using LN2.

And, once again, you literally ignored every suggestion I made except the EVO part, but go for a 500GB.

Hi ATM Inside,

You are right - I think I should cut down the Mobo because I'm only going to utulize 2 way SLI not 3 or 4. Do you think Asus X99 Deluxe with Wifi & USB 3.1 card a good choice over the RVE. Also RAM I didn;t understand why you asked for 2666Mhz. Should I use higher or lower. It's costing only 150$ here for 16GB 4x4 2666Mhz

Best,
Paul

That's still a very expensive motherboard. What features do you NEED and what features do you WANT?
I'm thinking that an X99 OC Formula would allow you to overclock to the moon and back and be a lot more budget friendly.

I'm asking "why only 2666MHz" because you're looking at DDR4.
Grab a 4x4GB 3000MHz kit instead, I'm sure you'll be shocked at how small the price difference is.

Any comments on the monitor, PSU, Swiftech cooler, or larger SSD?

Hi ATM,

I dont about AsRock. From review I know they perform well but my mind is towards either a EVGA X99 Classified with 980Ti Classified OR Asus X99 Deluxe + Strix 980 Ti. Will go Dual SLI may be 6months when either of the card prices come down. Below is the spec as of now.

Intel Core i7-5820K Processor (15M Cache, up to 3.60 GHz)
NZXT Kraken X61 280mm All-In-One Water / Liquid CPU Cooling
Asus X99-DELUXE/U3.1 (Changed as per your feedback)
Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (4x4GB) DDR4 2666MHz - Black
ASUS GeForce GTX 980 Ti STRIX 6GB GTX 980 TI-6Gd5
Samsung 850 EVO 250GB (Changed as per your feedback)
WD Black 2TB SATA 6 Gb/s, 7200 RPM, 64MB (Changed as per your feedback)
Corsair Vengeance C70 Mid-Tower Gaming Case - Military Green
SeaSonic 1050W ATX12V / EPS12V 80 PLUS PLATINUM (Changed as per your feedback)
Corsair Vengeance K70 RGB Mechanical - Cherry MX Red
Asus ROG Gladius Wired Optical Mouse
Kingston HyperX Cloud II Gaming Headset
Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q 144hz 27" Monitor (I prefer TN vs IPS) Also this one is being rated the best gaming monitor unless the newer one comes with IPS

EVGA X99 Classified with 980Ti Classified OR Asus X99 Deluxe with 980 Ti Strix

Hi all,

I'm building my first custom gaming rig & dying to have this question to be answered. NOBODY I know is able to answer this question for me

EVGA X99 Classified with 980Ti Classified OR Asus X99 Deluxe with 980 Ti Strix

Get whichever has the features you want, you won't see a noticeable performance difference from one to the other. You also don't need to match video card brands with motherboard, you can mix and match what fits in your budget.

I figure this question could have also been asked in your build thread?

You still can't fit that CPU cooler in your case. Either this one you listed earlier Corsair H110i GTX Extreme or the swiftech H220x which will likely work better with less noise.

I recently built a X99 machine. I highly recommend the parts I selected because they have worked out better then I could have imagined.

I got a MSI X99S SLI Plus motherboard and a Intel Core i7-5930K. I was able to overclock it to 4.7GHz and kept it well below 1.4 volts. I don't think a expensive X99 motherboard is required. I would save the money on the board and get a MSI X99S SLI Plus over a Asus X99-DELUXE and use the difference to get a 5930K instead of the 5820K.

I agree with everyone else. You are not going to be able to fit that cooler into the case you want. It just is not big enough.

The case I had before I upgraded was like this
Case.jpg
It had the power supply on the top. It was sucking warm air from the processor. It had limited cable management. It couldn't fit larger air coolers or AIO water cooling solutions. Even back when I first built the machine with two GeForce 8800GTS cards which where short by todays standards the power cables going into them where wedging up on the hard drives. When I added in GeForce GTX 560 TI cards later the was almost no room for the power cables. This also means air flow was horrible. The only thing it was good at was taking up little space.

I would highly suggest purchasing a Full Tower case. I house my machine in a Corsair Graphite 780T. If you can find a case similar to it or get one of them yourself you can fit all sorts of goodies inside including the water cooler you're looking at.

The ASRock board I mentioned is arguably the best X99 overclocking board on the market.
There's no reason you have to match GPU and motherboard manufacturer, and you're limiting yourself by doing that.

PSU is still massive overkill....
Get the EVGA SuperNova G2 850W and call it a day.

Again, on the SSD, if you're wanting to put a fair amount of games on it the minimum I'd recommend is 500GB.

Agreed, agreed, and agreed with ATM.

The Acer is largely considered to be a better monitor than the ROG Swift, I don't think I know anyone that prefers TN to IPS when comparing the two, you end up with better color better viewing angle on the IPS with both being 1440p screens and 144hz refresh rate.

The question is in his previous thread and has been already addressed
