MY T-bird has 4 little pads on the top of the proccesor. Should I remove these before applying the Thermal Paste, so the CPU makes a flat contact with the HSF?

I don't think you should! At least I didn't. I think their on the chip, so the h/s doesn't crack the core.

Do not remove them. Those pads actually help in keeping your heatsink level on the core.

I also hope you plan on only applying the grease to the die in the center of the chip and are not considering the entire top of the chip as the "core".

Don't mean to think you're ignorant or anything, but I don't want anyone getting into something they know little or next to nothing about is all.

Well, I did remove the pads. I tried the HSF without any thermal grease the first time, and my temps had dropped about 8 degrees C just from removing the pads. Then I applied the thermal grease (to the core only) and it made my temps drop only about 2 degrees C. So, removing the pads was a big help in cooling my CPU down.

I also bent back the metal clips on the HSF a bit to take some of the pressure off the CPU to make sure it won't crack the core.
