i got my pyramid smart fan controller today.
However, it diddnt take long for me to be dissapointed.

the blue glowing i knew about, i will deal with that later...However, when i forst took it out of the box i decided to first check it with my multimeter. So, i plugged it into my antec SP 400, and it rang up at 12.01 V. okay, so it doesnt appear to limit the voltage. o then plugged it into a fan and turned it on

DEAFNESS! this fan began emmitting a high pitched buzzing noise that was at least 4 times louder than the fan at regular speed (yet was going at a lower speed)
so i backprobed it and it was going at 10V, 68*F (no idea on C)
so its neon blue, spins my fans too fast for the temp, and makes some sort of voodoo noise come from my fan(s) (i tested it wiht both my antec fans and 4 noname fans, 280's and 292's from "the box" )

1) why is this buzzing? thats got to be the most annoying sound EVER! what could possibly cause this?

2) why would it be at 10V when the temp is so LOW? i would expect it to be nearly off if not off at that temp...

and finally...to compensate for the speed, if i were to get a potentometer and have a variable 12V going into the controller would it cut the max output by the % of the power cut going in? it uses the 5V for the controller itself...

Como,The tester. 30° C = 86° F..25° C = 77° F..20° C = 60° F..
Is the buzzing coming from the Pyramid itself? Heres a link to a review that talks about the alarm, buzzer. THE FANMAN:cool:

very strange.. mine doesn't do anything like that. r u sure the fan u're using doesn't work on lower voltages?
does it do that with all the fans?
did u add up the wattage and make sure it doesn't exceed 20watts?
you may just have a faulty one u know..
@ around 70F, mine outputs 9v.

the buzzing comes from the fans, all of them. i believe they are all DC brushless fans, as thats every fan i've ever seen (or so i thought)

all the fans work fine and quet on 5V, i've done it for days with the antec fans (one cooling a motherboard the other cooling a harddrive i was testing)

the "pulse width modulation fan controller" topic on the main page makes me think this is the reason...

this is bad... do i have to buy 5 new non-brushless fans for this? if so could someone tell me where t oget the $ for that? last i checked fans were $10 each. (which depresses me, i have 20+ 80MM fans in my room)

Now do you see why we all use fan controllers. At least the majority of us.Automatic is for transmissions in car not fans in computers.Especialy on a OC rig.If you get a nice fan controller you can do what you want with your fan speeds. You can even adjust your case pressure with one. I'm sorry your having trouble with the unit.I would return it,if possible. THE FANMAN:cool:

maybe i will...its was only $10, is that worht a return? i really wanted auto, i cant monitor my temps all the time and if i automate stuff to be done (lets say in the middle of the night) it would be easy to overheat things...i want this to be silent, but i dont wann kill it...

Most temp monitors have alarms on them.:D Your rig if it was in your sig, probably has a safety shut down, unless its disabled.I run my rig 24/7 Folding.I use a UPS w/battery backup for power failures.
I dont see what auto fan control can do to save your rig if theres a prob. and your not there. THE FANMAN:cool:

Heh. my rig will be in my sig, when i get it. i only have my case, some fans, my pyramid controller, my hard drives, and my RAM (nice, pretty ram...) so far.
My Mobo/dvd drive shoudl get here monday, my DLT3C should get here sometime next week, my heatsink is due monday or tuesday, and i cant remember if i'm forgettign anything... nothing to worry about with the temps so far :p

Dood thats your whole prob...The mobo needs to be in and the PSU should not be turned on with out a load on it ,like a HDD.
I think this is your prob. with the fans. Another guy was having the same prob.I told him this and everything worked ok when he got it all together. He didn't have the Pyramid though. Hang in there COMO. THE FANMAN:cool:
