OK, my first question is can I somehow check for the version of my Quake 3 game, and if I can, can I update it somehow w/o downloading tens of MBs? My screen in Q3A in WinXP is very dimm and the brightness isn't changing when I move the brightness control in System->Display. I tried different vid cards, different drivers, even updated WinXP, nothing worked. Any suggestions?

Try raising the gamma in-game. You can do that from the system configuration menu. As for the version number of the game, the most latest is 1.31, and the version you're running is displayed on the main selection screen in the bottom-right corner.

OK, my Q3A version is 1.11, I think its one of the ealiest. And where do I find this Gamma control, if its in the game, I can't see it.
If its in Windows, could u please pinpoint where it is exactly?
And how many MBs would I have to DL to get the latest ver of Q3A?
Thanks

Hmm strange, i had this problem in Voyager: eleite force, i guess it fixed itself cuz i dont have the problem anymore :p
The quake 3 point release is only like 12 or so mb (not that bad). www.fileplanet.com is a good place to look (since gamespy and ID are in bed with each other theres not many other places to get it). and if you have last months PC gamer cd its on there as well :)

actually quake 3 point is about 28MB, but its OK. What will it do, and how do I install it? Will it fix the problems I'm having w/ Q3A & WinXP, cause I hear no1 else is having Q3A problems.

It only downloaded a file w/ the size of 95KB, it wouldn't run, I think there is a problem w/ the link or the file that is on that link u gave me

OK, this is strange, I installed the point release after 2.5H download, and it did absoulutly nothing, maybe now I need to reinstall Q3A? Or how do I activate the update, I did go to "Mods" and load Quake III Arena but it did nothing.

There shouldn't be any menu changes, nothing noticeable between 1.11 and 1.31, I don't think, just a few tinkers.

To change gamma in Q3 bring down the console(hit ~) and type

/r_gamma

hit enter, it should be set to 1.0, you can adjust it to your liking :p

In Q3 main menu do this:
go to set up-system-display..here is the place where you can change yer gamma...Also consider getting a new vid card...that may help out w/ your video prbs....and read the RTFM(read the F&%$'ing Manual)!!

Reinstall the game...re-apply the patch and all will be well..this game is idiot proof!

Win Xp works wonderfully w/ Q3 on my 2 systems..just read some facs and be patient....loads of sites out their that wil help you out w/ tweaks and stuff for your game...Check out "planet Quake".

OK, I tried to reinstall Quake 3 Arena. It didn't work, it stayed the same, couldn't change the brightness.
