I have Quake 4 and it's fun online, but not many people are on. I was thinking about picking up Quake 3 but was wondering if there is anybody on anymore.
yes. there is still quite a bit of regular baseq3 games going on, but baseq3 (regular) quake3 is horrible (bad netcode, physics etc). I'd suggest buying the game, downloading the latest patch, updating punkbuster (anticheat addon), and downloading osp and cpma mods. You can get maps and mods @: http://gnatab.com/maps.html
also keep in mind that this is a 7yr old so many of the people still playing are pros by now.
It's still semiactive, the netcode works great in the latest version like matva suggested. CPMA is awfully fun, although I never really got good at it . I think Q3 is one of the best FPS to ever be created, consitering how long it's lasted and it's movement makes me splurge. Good job developers .
EDIT: Just buy it man. I just realized how fun Q3 is because of the airrox .
Same thing applies for UT2004, it's a pretty dead game but I still play it everyday.
Quake 3 is easy to find for cheap now. When I bought my copy (which included Team Arena) I think I paid like, $12 for it. Excellent value for the pinnacle of Deathmatch.

There is a regular big secondhand sale near where my parents live that carries a lot of computer stuff, and I got my copy for 50 pence last summer (I lost my original). There are still quite a lot of games online, and luckily, unlike CS 1.6 and some other old games the servers aren't all populated by unbeatably awesome players.
