Laptop Keyboard problem

I recently aquired a Toshiba laptop (Don't know the specs yet) that was having a keyboard problem... It didn't recognise(sp) it.. So I figured dead keyboard. So I plug in an external keyboard, boot up, no keyboard detected (expected to see "press enter to continue")...Hmmm.. so I figure I'll try for an OS install.. Nope, no go, can't find the keyboard...

SO......

I have laptop with windows 98se (that much I do know from previous user) that can't find its way to the keyboard...either of them..

Any help on this as to what it could be? Is there a controller for the keyboard that could be bad? Can it be replaced? MOBO hosed? Do I have a really fancy LCD screen that I could use for my PC if I spend 200-400 for a controller (NOT)?

Laptop specs:

Toshiba
style: Satellite 4010CDT
Model: PAS401U B

I'm not real laptop savy.. so any help would be great...

P.S. Its mine free if I can get it fixed... :)
