Question about a long loud sound.

I was on my mother's PC when there was a long loud sound. I shut the PC down and when I try to start it, the PSU turns on, but no video.

I'm trying to figure out if the PSU or vid card went. Anyone else experience this before?

Video card, mobo maybe. The long, loud sound is from something dying, but if the PSU turns on, doubt it's that.

Did the sound come from the speakers or the computer itself?

Once this happens, it could be anything. A little more info on the system could be helpful.
