Question about benchmark SETUP and scores...

What resolution and settings are best for benchmarking performance for video cards? I see some people with cards that are inferior to mine that put up better numbers---so I am wondering if its standard to test with a low resolution, low graphics settings test.I ask because I got about 50000 in Aquamark with the resolution at 1024x768 with every detail maxed, including audio.

Whats the most typical test setup used by most people ?

Default setting...simple as that really...but there are all sorts of tweaks/reg hacks that you can do that will add to peoples scores...especially in 01...and there are some tweaks for AM...AM is mainly Nvidia bias benchmark anyways...so there are very few AM tweaks for ATI...

Also...OCing the GPU will make a big difference...you have a decent OC for your Pro...but there are a lot of other Pros out that will benchmark at a lot higher timings...

I will install and run AM and post back with my score...

If you wan't easily comparable scores run at stock, otherwise minumum settings and resolution will increase your score.

Some easy things to increase your score some would be, not running background programs such as MBM, cat Control Center, firewall, virus scan, and folding. Also in the task manager set the runtime priority to high. Defrag your HD, run a complete anti spyware and virus sweep, and disable anything that takes resources like USB, and onboard sound.

Of course you shouldn't do these full time but when benchmarking they do help.

Finally have you considered flashing your pro to an xt for alittle extra performance, and overclocking your CPU?

Well,I have Nortons Internet Security, Nortons antivirus, Microsofts Antispyware and my firewall running. My AM test just completed, and this was what it gave me as my results:

AquaMark Score: 53082 (CPU: 10072, GFX: 7206)
Detail level: Very High

2nd test(After turning off anti-virus and firewall progs):
AquaMark Score: 53107 (CPU: 10115, GFX: 7200)
Detail level: Very High

3rd test:
3dMark03-6748(CPU 998) (run before I found out there was a new patch-wil patch and run again)

how are these scores? Do they look low, about where they should be,or maybe better than they should be? Also--I am using the stock AMD HS and fan---havent gotten my XP-90 from my sig yet--so the scores might improve once my XP-90 is installed.

OK...I shut my computer down for 5 minutes to let my Video Card cool down...rebooted and shut off all the backround programs.I just ran AM again.I am going to run 3DMark03 now,and update those results in a few minutes

AquaMark Score: 53689 (CPU: 10126, GFX: 7305)

I am not sure how to get a publish link or if I even can with a freebie account...so here is a screenie...I made it public...just dont know where :-/

I am not a auqaholic so not really sure what tweaks work best...

Running timings and OC in sig..running 1.6v now...and Pro flashed to XT running default XT Timings...

Only tweaks I know of for this benchmark...besides already done the ACPI multiproc device tweak for 01...is just setting the drivers to the lowest and making sure tril was completely turned off with rtool :-/

HEATM:...make sure you have all those startup programs shutdown before benching...go to msconfig and turn off everything that is not needed...which should be none ;)...reboot...then OC your card...then run a default run...this is where you should see a better improved score...

Not really a tweak...just freeing up some needed CPU/Memory for the benchmark ;)

Ok...I ran the AM test and 3dmark03 test back to back after a cold reboot.I might have gotten a better score if I did a cold reboot after the SM test, too.

My updated scores are:
AquaMark Score: 53689 (CPU: 10126, GFX: 7305)
3DMark03: 6831 (CPU:998)

This is with all backround programs turned off---how do these new scores look?

Now I have to figure out how to OC my CPU.I see your A64 3200+ is banging out 2750mhz :attn:
Your CPU score in AM is insane! Once I can OC my RAM and CPU I should see a significant improvement in my benchmark scores.I'lll also try to run 3DMark03 right after shutting down for 5 minutes to let my video card cool down---that might help improve my score a tiny bit.

Have you done the ACPI multiprocessor change in your device manager...not sure if this will help your AM score...but it should...

Also...figured out how to post a AM score...blonde attack :bang head

AquaMark Score: 58250

AquaMark CPU Score: 13079
AquaMark GFX Score: 7491

This is with a mild 450/414 OC ;)...

As for your question on 03...score in sig...

PM sent to you HeatM...

wow...your AM score jumped 5000 points....I have to learn to overclock.

Check your PM's if you havent already...I will be online for about another 45 or so..

Also...didnt catch that before...but if you are running stock and I am at 2.75Ghz...and you are slightly under my default run...not sure how much AM relies on the CPU actually...but odds are you could end up scoring more then mine with a good OC and possible running at a 5:6 divider for tighter timings then mine and with possible better latency which should give AM a nice booster shot...
