Does the Audigy 2 ZS have the standard HD Audio pins to connect it to a generic front panel? Like the basic front 1/8" jacks on a case or multifunction panel, for instance.

yes it does but the pinouts are different... i had to make my own converter dealio for my audigy 2 value so that i can use the front pannel mic and headphones

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16829102178

go there and click on the pics, and the first pic... see the white connector thats the front pannel audio. the problem is that the connector is not a normal connector like on a motherboard so you have to find a plug that works... almost all ps2 port mouses use this type of connector inside the mouse so i jacked 1 out of there and soldered it up.

ill post a pic of my converter with the pinouts for the headphone and mic connectors.

Thanks for the reply Nd4...I actually just picked up an X-Fi platinum - they were on clearance at best buy for $149. Id like to see those converter pics though!

Thanks,

Yes, please do! I finally got tired of fighting the soundmax onboard sound on my P5B-Deluxe and ordered an Audigy ZS from Newegg. Would really like to get it hooked up to the front panel on my P180b case.

Thanks!

if that converter works on the x-fi, i would like some details on that as well.

I found a couple pics that I had downloaded back when I had an Audigy 2 ZS, but I never went and made a cable (I think I had found one of those white connectors at jameco.com)

^^^^This picture is for the Audigy 2 ZS (NOT X-Fi)

\/\/\/ Below is a txt file I had saved for the X-Fi cards (NOT AUD2):

Rest of Card

1 - Analog Ground
2 - Analog Headphone Out Left
3 - Audio Backpanel Mute -- short to ground to mute the backpanel (when headphones are plugged in)
4 - Analog Headphone Out Right
5 - same as #3
6 - Mic input from front panel
7 - No Connection
8 - VREF out -- voltage reference for Mic
9 - MIC IN MUTE -- ground when mic isn't plugged in, +12VDC when mic is plugged in
10 - Audio cable detect -- will be ground when headphones are plugged in (not normally used)

Slot pointing outside your PC

Awesome, thanks jivetrky - I wonder if Creatve would be kind enough to give out the pin functions on the X-Fi cards if we emailed them? The XtremeMusic is really a pretty good deal, and if you dont need all the bells and whistles of the breakout box it would be a cinch to wire it up to front audio ports.

The thing I quoted in the bottom of my post is for the XFi ExtremeMusic. You use the same connector that is on the Audigy (except the XFi's is black). It's in the same spot though...then just follow the list of pin fuctions in that list. It's pretty easy
