I have an IC7-MAX3, P4 2.8c, and sp-94 hs.
My case came with a temperature probe to put under the CPU, but it didn't quite fit so I attached it to the side of the heatsink near the bottom.
Will this give me fairly accurate readings? Right now the MAX3 is reading about 45deg C while my probe is reading 30.
I know there are claims the MAX3 may read a little high.
Which method do you think is giving me the most accurate temperature reading?

THANKS!

First, using external probes is a waste of time. That 30C you see is not indicative of core temps at all. The Abit boards actually report closer to realistic than ALL other P4 boards. The CPU's run much hotter than people realize. Second, there are TWO temp sensors in P4's, one for us to read and one that is in the hottest part of the bottom of the core, which we can't read. The one we read is very near the surface (top) and is not really telling us how hot the hottest part of the core is. The buried sensor is used for thermal throttling and shutdown. Intel has said that this sensor could read as much as 40C hotter than the temps sensor they allow us to monitor.
