Hi everyone!! I’m new to this folding stuff and I have a few questions.

First, will folding effect other stuff I do on my PC like playing games and such?

Should my cpu get hotter while folding?

Is folding a good way to test my system to see if its stable?

What is a WU?

And lastly, which team should I join? (I’m thinking about #33. Hee hee) j/k :p

Thanks!! :D

Folding will not effect gaming as it only uses the extra cycles that are not getting used.

Your CPU will get hotter as it is under full load. To get an idea of the temps it will get to, try using a burn in program like prime95 to stress the CPU to 100% usage.

Yes, folding is a great way to test stability!!!

I will let someone who knows better answer the WU's question :D

TEAM 32 OF COURSE!!! LOL

Welcome to the forums and to folding.
1. We hope that because we are the ones helping you you will choose to fold for team #32.

2. Folding will not effect other things you do on your PC. They will effect folding.

3. Folding is an excellent way of testing your system for stability. It runs your cpu at 100% from beginning of work unit to end. If there is a problem with your sys including too high an overclock foling may not complete or the results may be corrupted.

4. A WU is a work unit. It is a packet of work that your system recieves from Stanford and processes to completion. It is divided into 100 small parts called frames and each frame is folded individually. After completing all 100 frames the Work Unit is sent back to Stanford and a new packet is recieved.

5. We are team #32.

Again welcome to Folding. Fold On!! :burn:

Hmmm, that’s odd. The reason I asked if my CPU would get hotter is because yesterday and every day since I built it, it’s been idling at 41C to 42C. Today I just started folding, (over six hours now) and the temp hasn’t gone above 38C. What do you make of that??? :eh?: :eh?:

my computer is about 10 degrees cooler than normal but then again i live in fargo and i opened the window and turned off the heat.

I understand your concern; however I'd have to see that one to believe it.:) What you are stating defies physics.

Hah! Folding four three hours this morning and cpu temp has been at a steady 36C/96F!!! How low will it go? This is too strange. :eh?:

BTW it's warmer today than it was last night.

Well its strange but you cant complain about it getting cooler :) Anything else change you replace or remove the cover or anything?

Am realy spamming a little to get my 4th star ;)
