Hello,

I'm totally new to OC'ing and I have a question about OC'ing a q8400.
I'm currently waiting for new memory and water cooling before I'll start overclocking the fsb to 400. (333 currently)
But can I increase the voltage now without increasing the FSB or will the system become unstable if I don't increase the FSB as well?

I read somewhere that the q8400 would like the voltage increased to around 1.3 to be stable at 3.2ghz (fsb 400)

Here's a good place to start. There's no magic bullet. OCing is methodical and there is some terminology, methodology and concepts you must learn.

Increasing FSB and voltage is done in tandem and is dependent on each other. Start by increasing FSB, test for stability while watching the temp, continue increasing FSB until system becomes unstable. At that point increase voltage until system (hopefully) becomes stable again. Again, after each incremental change, test for stability and monitor temp. Once system become stable again, back to increasing FSB, stability test, monitor temp, until unstable, then increase volts, stability test.......... Sooner or later you'll hit your limits.
