I did some high end testing and I was able to get my E8400 to boot at 500fsb/4.5ghz. I was thinking that my system would crap out before 500fsb but after reading this thread (629fsb on air with P5B-D C2/E8500):

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=175562

It appears that the Asus P5B-D C2 revision clocks FSB like a mad man.

So...I want to test my max FSB/ram settings but I have a problem. I can't change the multi on my E8400 in the BIOS. The only option is Auto, there is no choices or drop down menu.

Do I need to reenable one/all of the power saving features to regain the ability to change the multi? I currently have them all disabled.

Thanks.

EDIT: I'm also having problems with Prime95 25.6 crashing instead of giving errors. Is this normal? I remember when I pushing my E6600 it would give errors and halt, not crash out of the program. I'm currently working on my 490/4410 stability in Prime but I can't get it to run for more than 5 minutes without crashing. SuperPi and PCMark05 both love the setting I am currently at. I was able to pass PCMark05 with 1.424v @4410 but I can't get Orthos to run for 5 minutes with 1.512v.

2nd ninja edit: Prime95 Blend test works great so far. Can't get the CPU stress test to run at all though. :/

i ran into ur prime problems as well. i went to xtreme and it was stated pretty clear that e8400s will not pass prime stress testing higher than 4.3ghz.
surely we can give the cpu alot of juice and get higher speeds but its not prime stable.
if u run the gromac cpu core stress, u will have no problems , if ur using orthos. if u choose small ffts - stress cpu, yeah u will crash.
my ram the 1200ddr2 crapped out , i can remove 1 stick and it runs about 1050 but it also craps out there now, but i did remember to validate this time around

i ordered ballistix 1066 sticks and rmaing these other ones.
maybe i can get back to 4.9 for sake of overclocking, but i was kinda sad when i read 4.3 was the tops u can get for ur 24/7 settings.
heres the forum link

heres another guy that got 4.9 but on air ;)

Thanks for the info.

Is it only an issue with Prime above 4.3ghz or is it an issue with actual stability? In other words, is it a problem with prime or is the chip really just not stable?

Now that I know my ram and FSB are up to the task I guess I'll work on a 480/4320 stability run overnight tonight. I'll see how it goes.

thats being debated.

im planning on running my system with speedstep since i dont game alot, web surf mostly. no need wasting cycles or needless volts goin thru the cpu.
good luck with ur run overnight.

Its been a while since I've ran Prime95. Should I use the Blend test to ensure maximum stability? If I remember correctly it is the one that stresses all components the most but I'm not sure.

blend will not make the e8400 fail, the small ftt cpu stress will.
blend if u wish :) stress if u wanna fail!

Can't help with Prime but to change the multi just type in your allowed value (9-6), and hit "enter". (Bios 1226)

I fiddled with it a bit and it finally allowed me to do just that. I should've posted in here. I think I found a bug in the BIOS but I can't replicate it.

Anyway, thanks for the help.
