I don't want to seem rude, but that is not true. I don't know the letter designation of the 128mb 8500, but the LE is generally a down-clocked version of the regular 8500. The retail 8500 is clocked at 275/550, while the LE might be 250/500 or even 230/460, depending on the manufacturer. Also, a lot of LE's have reduced voltages and lower quality memory chips, to further reduce the potential of the card. Retail 8500's generally use 3.6ns memory, while LE's/OEM's might use 4ns memory.
Get the retail. Or maybe hold out for the Gigabyte version of the 8500. It's not out yet, but it just might be a little better than the retail 8500. It at least has some heavy cooling gear and killer hardware-monitoring. But the price will be more than a retail 8500. Run some searches in the forums and you should be able to find a ton of info about various 8500's.
My bad, I suppose you are right. I thought you were talking about the 8500LE, not the 8000LE. I think it's the DV model that has 128mb, though. Scroll down on the 1st page of video/soundcards and you'll see a post about the 8500DV 128mb (and maybe there's an LE version of it). Or run a search for "8500LE" to see several posts about how retail 8500's and 8500LE's differ.
I've been trying to figure out just which 8500 to buy for the last week, and still haven't decided.
I just got back from buying my 8500LE, it has 128mb of ram. The ram that the LE 128 has is not 4, its 3.6. I have heard that it will top out at no more than 275. PLENTY FOR CS.
But I'm hoping that top speed itsnt true!
Anyway, I cant wait to install it. Anyone know where I can get Firmware for it that can get it to put the voltage closer to that of a 8500?
That would be nice.
Hey, PigGuy, have you looked at the timings for the clock and memory on that 8500LE? CompUSA's website says they have them for $200, but if the timings are crap, I may as well just spend the same amount for a 64MB 8500, non LE.
HA, The dude who told me that was wrong, I have mine at 179, just fine ! ! ! I will push harder but I want to get my ram-sinks on first...
These cores dont heat up, so the limiting factor is the ram. I want to cool it better before beating the crap out of it.
