I'm thinking about getting a DDR Radeon AIW card but don't want yet another fan in my system (1.333gzh Athlon, A7M266 m/b). Does a Radeon run cool enough to use without a fan? I don't overclock.

Probably so, if you don't run it past 160 something or so. The LE comes with a little dinky heatsink, and I ran it for benchmarks up to 185 or so, and it still didn't have artifacts, but ran hot.
However, a small 40mm fan won't put off much sound, any airflow is better than none.
One good thing is the Radeon dosn't put out much heat.

Yeah , the fan is so small and pathetic that it hardly makes a sound, that and with all your other fans, the noise it makes would dissapate in the noise your other fans would make

i got tthe 64 ddr it came with a DINKY fan im willing to bet that a large heatsink without a fan would be much better. the heatsink under the stock fan was worthless im sure a large passive cooler would be more afective

Thanks all for the info. So, who makes and/or sells premium video card heatsinks designed for use without a fan?

you could also under clock it to compensate

Yeah, it seems fine. They also have some good heatsinks at 2cooltek.com if you don't want a chipset cooler

Yeah that PoS that comes on the card is pretty sad, isn't it? I'm not sure that it does anything at all...it seems to me the card would probably run just about as cool without it. I think the LE heatsink is actually higher quality than that crappy fan. Of course I placed a monsterous Socket 370 on mine, so even the LE's heatsink looks pretty dinky in comparison.
