I have asus a7v333 with raid controller. I was wondering if i could use two different size hard drives to have raid 0 ? Could i partion the bigger one to the smaller ones size ?
also if i get raid working what will be the speed increase that i'll see? is it alot better than just connecting it as ide drive?

Using 7200rpm ata133 hard drives (maxtor)

this one is off subject a bit..
if you have to ide connectors and want to connect two hard drives udma 6 (ata133) and two optical storage drives (cd-rw udma 2, dvd-rom udma 5) which would you put together on one channel? I heard that hard drives should'nt be on same ide cable as one another if possible..

Yes you can do that but it will be 2x the size of the smallest drive. The speed will be about twice as fast as single drive performance because it can access both drives at th same time but the access time will most likely not change. You should setup the raid both as masters on the two raid channels and use the optical drives on the seperate ide channels.
