I have an Abit KN9 Ultra and Two 500gig SATA maxtor harddrives.

I installed my WindowsXP onto a drive not in the raid array (the two 500s) and when I try doing a largish file transfer (like 200meg or more) it will hang about 1/4 to 1/2 of the way thru and then pretty much hangs up the rest of the system.

I used the latest drivers!

Oh, this is Windows XP x64.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Mike

edit:

In the process of trying a Regular WinXP Pro installation (non x64) - So far so good.

I unplugged the Power from the second SATA drive and the first runs better but still not perfect.

It seems that I cannot power both SATA drives off of the same cable - and that it's somewhat flaky running just one of these drives - is this a problem with the motherboard or the PSU? I'd think it's a PSU problem but honestly I don't know how to diagnose this problem any further and I would appreciate any assistance you guys can offer.

Antec TruePower Trio 550watt (link above)

This is the Power Source... I figured it'd be more than powerful enough to power two 500gig Sata drives, an Radeon x1950 Pro, 2gigs OCZ Ram...???

p.s.

I ran CPU Burn-in v1.01 (x2 for dual core) for 1 hour temps on processor stayed good and I had error checking enabled so I'm sure the processor is fine.

I also ran MemTest to about 250% coverage and had no errors.

I've tried another video card, a PCI GeForce (older one) and it does not change whether or not the problem occurs.

Sound is integrated and I disabled it and tried the system and it's still not stable on HD access.

So I tested CPU, Memory, and Video, and Sound - only thing left are the HDs themselves - which I plan to swap them into my old system and see how they run but I'm 99.9% sure they're fine and the motherboard.

What CPU are you running? (If its a pressler or smithfield I would look into a more reliable PSU)

that PSU can and has failed under hot stress
and the workmanship is shotty, not like antech at all really, they really should have done a better job with that PSU :(

If you put your full system specs in your signature or system problem posts its alot easier for members to dianose problems :)

I want reliability/dependability anyways so I'm going at 8am (When the store opens) to swap this PSU for a different one either way. Any suggestions?

I'm going to be running what's in my signature + two Seagate Barracuda 80gig Sata1.5g HDs. I'm probably going to do some mild OC'ing but nothing major, but I want good solid volts and the ability to power all of my gear in the event that it were to all be being accessed simultaneously somehow... =)

I put my specs in my Sig but it's not showing up for me. (Edit: Oh, now it is, only on new posts)

I've got alot of suggestions.. but Im not sure what your store will carry so Ill try to make the list kinda long..
these are off the top of my head. And take into consideration Im a bit picky about PSU's. so units that are close in discription, like a 600W silverstone zuse.. I wouldn't buy personaly but might work fine for you, I like the OEM's and the specs on these.

Sliverstone Zuse 560W (Estalis #2 OEM period)
Enhance 80+ 500W (Enhance OEM.. supprisingly solid PSU for the money.. great value)
Zippy G1 500W (Zippy.. #1 OEM period)
Sparkle 550W SLI (FPS OEM)
Ocz 520W powerstream (TopPower OEM, but they JUST happened to not fark up this one)

btw.. I can't spell for jack so some of the names here might be misspelled.

Replaced the PSU with a quality SilverStone unit and I'm still having the same problem.

Only thing I can think is that I have a bad Motherboard.

I can get a KN9-SLA at Fry's but what other motherboards should I be looking at?

I want overclock settings along with 3g/sata raid with at least 4 ports, 1gig ethernet and PCI Express x16 slot (at least 1, 2 is ok too)

Current system specs are below in signature, it'd all be the same except for the Motherboard obviously.

Thanks!

Mike
