has anyone tried to change block size after initial setup? think it can be done without losing all info on drives?,,,,,,,,,,,thanx

Well, I dont have any personal experience with RAID setups, but I know the theory behind it....

When you change the RAID block size, you're changing the hashing algorithm that your processor/RAID controller go through when it divides the data for storage. If I am correct, this algorithm is also used for reading data off the array (goes through the hash algorithm backwards to know which data blocks on which drives to address). So if you change your block size, you'll be able to read data that you have stored under that algorithm, but any data stored under different algorithms will be corrupted. That's the theory... whether this is true in practice, is a question for someone who actually has a RAID array and has run into this issue before.

I have raid 0 set up on my kt7r, and when I wanted to change my block size I just deleted the entire array and recreated it, so essentially dumping all of my data. (of course I made sure it was backed up first)

As far as I know, thats the only way to do it.

i was afreaid that was the only way.ill do it anyway later .thanks
