well, it wont speed up your connections, but it will speed up the aplications that display the internet, in most cases.

PS: this post gets me my fifth star :D

Yeah, I thought it helped a little. The reason is I have been using a laptop with 68 MB RAM and now am using a desktop with 480 MB. Internet seems alot faster. Thanks for the help.

It may have a slight effect ie speeding up the processes that send the data. Also, an older PC (with, say 64MB) will have older and less efficient technology (inc modem) than a brand new laptop with 480MB.

If you are using you swap file heavily, adding RAM would help you get faster internet by speeding up the applications. But as it has been said before here, it really depends on the conection you have. Did you old PC have a slower modem???

Nope I have had a 56k modem for about my entire life. I really want a cable modem. It is really expensive though.

You mean your cable company doesn't give you one?

With my internet you get the modem, nic card, 2 months free, and no line cap, all for 39.99/month Canadian (about 25US).

you can do either

rent or buy

it depends on the price but i would rent
that way if anything blows up then you can have them replace it
or if there is a new technology your not stuck with the old modem

but if your in this for the long term and you find a good deal then mabey it would be econmical to buy

youll have to do the math

( ps they will need the mac address of your modem if you buy one) you cant just "plug and play" on there network
