?Ram sink?

Well, They are Ram sinks and go on the Ram They look just like the ones that came stock on my Hercules 9700pro front and back. As far as getting them most will tell you no they dont do much. unless your doing some heavy overclock or volt mod to the card. What kind of card do you have some mem does run pretty hot even at stock speed you could always check your ram by touching it. Just make sure you remove any static from your self first and you may get burnt but if you get burnt then you may need ram sinks. pesonaly I would say no. My friend has a built by ATI 9700pro almost pushing 700 on the memory and he has no ram sinks and no trouble.

I'd position the ones around the gpu to recieve the fan flow from the gpu heatsink. So with a finned HS like tweakmonster's, the fins point to the GPU. Looking at it, fins run up and down above GPU sink, the ones on the side get fins running lengthwise, left to right. On the backside, point the fins so they are horizontal when looking at the top- back when not installed, to go with the case flow. Don't really make a big difference anyways but makes sense to me.

So if im not going to do any oc on my video card, the Ramsinks are a pure waste of money...?

If you aren't gonna o/c your card, don't bother with the heatsinks.

Unless you want it to look cool. ;)

Other than that, I would save the money.

heh, im a noob, i don't got extra heatsinks laying around.:D

even if you DO OC your card they are pretty much a waste of money. the only time they have shown to help overlcocking is when doing a voltmod for the ram.

buy one of those cheaper and shorter HS's from newegg... or a big one and cut it up- dremels and a clamp- i end up having to use plyers though :-/

but this really isn't necessary if i don't oc, its more as an aesthetic thing right?

Yeah, there are people out there that put them on soley for appearance purposes (because they do look cool) but its been proven that they aren't worth the time and money with performance. If I were to ever put any on, it would be because they look awesome as hell.

ok "part" is not really a good word, its pretty close to all the reason, but i really wanted to know if there was functionality behind it.

There simply eye candy

My ram chips on my 9500pro dont even get warm even after 8 hours of Serving a flight sim

Granted I have a huge fan blowing on the card LOL

oh yes, i was planning to put a blower fan right next to the stock 9800 fan, is this a good idea?

have 2-120mm cards at 7v in the side of my case. i definately recommend it. well maybe not what i have but an 80mm blowing on the video card would probably do just as well.

thats another thing about ramsinks. if you did in fact wanted to get some functionality from them you would most definately need to have some air moving over them.
