ok...

i used to have just one stick of ddr ram and it was in slot 1 of my a7n8x-dlx.
i got a 2x256 set of hyperX and i set it up in dual channel in slots 1 and 3.
when i did this i noticed that slot 3 was really hard to get the stick to go in, i tried slot 2 and it was hard, but not as much.
later i added my old 256mb stick just to see how 768mb of ram performed.
yesterday i removed the old stick and moved the hyperX back into 1&3... or i tried.
I practically put my whole weight down on the DIMM to no avail, one side goes all the way down, but the other only goes in about half way... this is on slot 3.
it works halfway down.. but i don't trust it. slots 2 and 3 are different from 1, and blue too.

any help would be greatly appreciated! I can take pics of the slots too if needed (i can't see anything in them)

Start with the basics. You do realize that the little cutout in the center of each stick isn't actually in the center and the stick fits only one way, right?

Other than that, memory can be a pain to get in properly and I hate doing it but if it's properly aligned then you shouldn't need a hammer.

The color of the sockets shows which sockets are used in Dual Channel mode. Check to make sure the key slot (the little cutout on the memory chip) aligns with the socket correctly, then open the two plastic clips on the socket. Line up the chip with the key, and slowly and firmly press down. When the chip is totally in the two white clips will snap back into position. Sometimes they will not go all the way back in so push the white clip back towards the memory chip to make sure its properly locked in. Good luck.

yeah yeah yeah, sorry guys but i have installed memory before... i did have them snug in all three slots just a few days ago.

thanks for your help though, if i have time tonight i'll work on it some more and maybe try some canned air on the slots.
