My cosuin is running a duron 1 ghz, on ecs k7vta3 motherboard and a gf2mx400 vid card, 512 ddr, and his processor is at 39 celius and someone he will just be working not even playing any games so i highly doubt its a heating prob, and it will just turn off, no warning or error the computer just reboots.

What could be the cause of this happening?

maybe he's got a problem with one of his RAM sticks

by the way tell him to turn off automatic restart in Windows XP

hes running 2000 pro, not xp.

hmm how ould i find out if its the ram, like it runs fine. then like maybe once every day or two it just shuts down and reboots in the middle of something

He probably has 2 sticks of ram? Have him pull one out and run the comp for a couple days, or until it does it again. If it does it again, shutdown, pull the stick that is in the comp, the replace the other in it's original socket.

Placing the 2nd stick back into the original socket that it was taken out of helps to also eliminate a problem with the sockets themselves.

You may also want to check his psu fan, and monitor the volts for a couple of days to see what they are doing.:)

Good luck.

I have that problem too, my computer will be running fine and then all of a sudden it reboots!

I do know the cause of mine though......

InCD, as soon as I installed it it started doing it. It has only done it a few times and only once every few days, so it doesn't bother me much. I figure it is an easy way to remind me to reboot every few days or so:)

I guess what I am trying to say is, yes it may be the ram(either system or video) or it might have been an app. he installed recently!

Well i think its the memory. Today win2k crashed and said beginning memory dump or something.

Would it most likely be the RAM, or the motherboard?

Try the easier one first, memory. I know nothing about 2k, so I can't tell you where to look for probs. with it.

Good luck, wish I could be of more help.:(
