hmmmmm... this has happened to me too many times now for it to be a fluke.
my desktop is set to 1152x864.... it looks good on a 19" monitor. now, when playing a beam breakers demo at 1024x768, playing doom 2 at 640x480, or trying to run 3dmark2001 at 640x480 (just for ****s and giggles) everything will run fine for a minute or two, but then the screen will switch back to 1152x864, and the program will be running at it's resolution up in the corner of the screen, with flickering shadows of the action off to the right and below the main image....
niether 3dmark2001 at 1024 or 1280 nor morrowind at 1280 or 1600 gave me any headaches. it only seems to happen when running an app at a crappier resolution than the desktop.
oh and i got around the doom2 thing by logging into winxp home as the guest, changing the desktop to 640x480, and then launching doom2.
