Random shut down, pulled the cmos, restarted 15min later, and saw smoke coming out of my power supply.

Am i fuxored ?

I'd guess ( ;) ) you have a bad PSU. Do you have a spare to see if the rest of your system is functional? There is a chance the PS sent some serious voltage through your system as it fried - but you never know.

Q: Were you running a "cheap" PSU, or a "descent/good" one?

this was an aspire 520 watt, not a cheapie at all, I paid $75 for it 2 yrs ago and was going strong untill tonight, i guess from now on my PSU will have a much shorter upgrade cycle.

I plugged everything up with a spare everything seems to be OK, what is the best psu you can recommend for under $150

I'll let the big boys reccomend you something.

I might look at another OCZ (I'm loving my Powerstream 520), or up the ante to a PP&C

Sounds like you got lucky. I've done similar myself but i'd definattly call that PSU toast. Any warrentee?

im back on the system with another psu and everything works, yeah i consider myself lucky.

I dont think there is any warranty left on the psu, the papers for it are LONG gone
