How can you tell if you have a costa rica or malay chip from the box of the P4? I know it can be done? I'm just generally interested in learning how to read this stuff, even teh stuff on the CPU IHS itself. Please explain.

Could you read this on the box itself or do you need to actually LOOK at the IHS itself? Also how can you tell what stepping it is? Lastly, aren't Malay's the best at overclockers?

It is all on the box. If you look at the last 5 digits of the batch code on the box, that's the s-spec. Look that up on the Intel site and that will tell you what stepping.

Okay, on my 2.66B box the FPO# is:
Q301A270
So Q = Malay
Made in 2003
First week batch?!
A270 is the tracability
And I found the next thing its SL6EH...I looked it up on intels site and it corresponds. Is the SL6EH chip known for good overclocking. Core stepping C1
