Interesting. Im not really sure waht to make of your results quite yet. It would appear that X64 is both faster and slower all at the same time. Not sure why M$ is pushing so hard for this.

the obvious reason, $$$.

nice posts sucka, I'm glad to finally see some results between the two. I guess the only way to tell now is just when the 64-bit benchmarking utilities come out to be able to compare.

I would be using X64, except creative and Ati drivers don't play nice on my pc, the OS becomes unbootable when they are both installed. IE64bit and Firefox 64bit (whats it called?) are EXTREMLY slow, they take several minutes to visit a website, where as IE32 is the same as on regular xp. Also, I lose my Audigy4 softmod. :p

It seems to me, I'd be fine with this OS if I just used IE32bit, and took out my sound card, but that is enough reason for me to stay away.

I still don't see why you're having problems with your setup. I'm using creative drivers and ATI drivers at the same time and have never had problems with no boots. And the 64bit version of IE and Firefox (DeerPark) aren't slow at all, they just don't have 64bit plugins for them yet.

BTW, what's this I hear about an Audigy 4 softmod? Can I get somemore info about it?

Seems to me the transition from 16 to 32 bit was a little easier than it's going to be from 32 to 64 bit.

Thanks for the tests Sucka. :)

Yeah Sent, hard to really take a clear winner out of this. I like it in the sense that it's new, but without solid gains over XP it's still some time off before the switch seems worthwhile.

Yuri: That's odd, getting drivers was very easy for me. Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS works great, IE works great, using Mozilla 1.0.6 right now and feels identical to 32 Bit. There's honestly no difference between the 2 OS's as far as "feeling" goes.

I'll be home in a bit to test some more stuff.

Well, that was with the trial version. Is it identical to the full version? Its on it's way to my door right now, I did the trade-in program thing with my main copy of xp (kept my spare that hasn't been used yet :p).

I used the trial version as well. It's tottaly updated through Msoft so i gotta imagine it's the same as full version. Problem with Trial is once it expires, you can't just upgrade, requires reinstalling. So if you get the trial and like it, don't get to comfortable with it, it'll be completly gone in 6 months :-/

I would trade in a copy of my XP, but you need it from an OEM right? I heard about the trade in, but really didn't follow it much.

No, it doesn't have to come from an OEM. Just enter your product ID, the part you whited out. :) It might be over now though, not sure, give it a shot.

Thanks for the heads up. It's a good thing i took that ID number out i guess eh :)

Trade in

If you have XP Pro you can trade it for XP 64 Pro, but not if you have XP Home. MS will not be selling a "Retail" version of XP 64 bit OS. You will have to trade in your XP Pro, or buy it with a system...although it will be possible to get it from select OEM's with a hardware purchase.

FarCry Testing:

Windows x64 With 1.31 Patch + 64 Bit Patch:

1024x768:
Run 1: 96.70
Run 2: 100.92

1600x1200:
Run 1: 81.76
Run 2: 84.43

Windows XP With 1.31 Patch:

1024x768
Run 1: 98.50
Run 2: 101.60

1600x1200:
Run 1: 83.85
Run 2: 85.16

All tests were run with 4400+ @ 2800MHz and x850 XT at stock clocks (520/540). I used Benchemall to run these tests.

I can only assume that 64Bit doesn't play a role in this particular benchmark because the results are so similar. From what i understand the patch adds textures that are otherwise disabled with the regular version. Based on that i can only conclude that when those levels with added eye candy are added you're going to see less frames? This test was not conclusive to me.

I didn't even bother with POV-Ray, unless there's a "benchmark" tab i'm not gonna bother reading up on how to do it ;)

Nice Job Sucka.. I wish I kept all my results from running my x64 tests with my oc'd system, I do like x64, Ill just wait until they come out with more software that can be used on it.

Thanks.

Yeah, right now there's really no reason to use it short of the fact that it's new. The interface and "feeling" is identical to XP and there's some bugs. I just like using it because i've been on XP since the week it came out and i just need some kind of change :p

Yes I know what you mean, if they changed the whole way it ran, or made it look a little different, I have switched over, but until then, Ill stick with the x32 version.

UPDATE: I finnaly found working drivers for RAID 0! This was the main reason i really disliked this OS, but that has been solved. Microsoft obviously really dropped the ball here when you need to spend a week trying new stuff to get a RAID to work. I wonder why they haven't released a fix for this? Anyways, if anyone else was trying to get RAID + x64 going i have found some working F6 drivers. Post here or PM me and i'll get them to you. This makes me VERY happy :)
