Any clue what his name means?

You ready for the blue stars yet or what?! I think you deserve 'em.

Anyone know if Steam will have a 64-bit version soon? (I hope it's not already out and I'm just way outa the loop)

lol steam is bad enough 32bit, if they make a 64bit that means it will have 2x as many problems and knowing steam it will be 2x slower.

No, not sure on his name.

Blues would be nice, but not my decision ;)

Steam runs fine under 64-Bit XP, however it is not written 64-Bit. Not sure when they'll migrate to 64-Bit, but got now it really wouldn't make a whole lot of sense for them to make the switch as it will run fine as it stands.

would you recommend XP64 over 32 bit for a 4400+ X2?

That's a hard question to answer without knowing a bit more. Do you have any 64-Bit applications you would like to use? Have you confirmed there are system drivers for all your hardware and peripherals? Are you certain all the software you own can be used under Windows XP Pro x64? There is no reason to run out and swap to x64 unless you can somehow take advantage of it. Like i've told several other users, my suggestion would be to download the free 180-day trial version, give it a try and see if everything you own is compatible. I would not recomend you run out and spend $155 just because it's something new. As the results showed, there is no real difference between the two at the home user level. For those running 4GB memory and can take advantage of its features it would make a lot more sense.

That is why I mentioned it.

It wouldn't help to go 64-bit? Why not?

You're making me feel like 64-bit isn't making that big of a difference.

Wow!! This looks very promising and me saving money for my new system I plan to get next year (Socket M2 - X2 5000+ and some overclockin' DDR2), Windows 64bit should show some serious grounds over the original XP. Hope to see some good news down the road. Thanks for the very useful information Sucka. Really appreciate it as it helps my massive research that I do everyday. LOL. Don't have big enough hard drives to save all the information.

Cheers,

Well if/when they write it to 64-Bit no doubt it will show improvments. But while running under x64 in 32-Bit mode it won't show any performance improvments. Right now there really is no reason to get excited over 64-Bit for this very reason, not much software is written to take advantage of it. I'll try to put together a post outlineing the differences between the 2 OS's. Trust me though, 64-Bit is the future, but today it only has a small niche in the computer world. Very few people can really take full advantage of x64, yet.

rvvae: Glad you enjoyed the read.
