So I just recently started to sell some stuff on ebay and I sold a coin for 25 bucks.. I got the money and all that and it went through fine, same day I sold a card collection for 40 bucks and... That money was put in a pending funds thing.. I put down the tracking number and everything and still it hasnt been released. The bad thing is I actually need this money, other wise I wouldnt be selling crap on ebay! It just frustrates the crap out of me. Their pretty much stealing my money with a promise to give it back in 15 days as it gathers interest for them..

eBay and Paypal sometimes get retarded and put a hold on fund unless the buyer leaves a positive feedback first. Since you already shipped, not much else you can do but to wait.

Check the tracking number, if the buyer still hasn't left the feedback a day or 3 after it was delivered, kindly ask them to leave you a + feedback.

The first time I dealt with this the buyer never left feedback so I had to wait forever for them to clear it with the UPS tracking. I thought it was just because it was an expensive item, $700, I had never sold anything that expensive. Then today they held funds on two of three items I sold, one for $225, the other for only $42.

I'll probably keep putting up with it though because it is more profitable. I always try to sell stuff on the forums first but I tried selling the one item for $30 and got no interest in 2-3 days. Put it on ebay and it was gone the next day for $42.

It is annoying but it's to protect both Paypal and customers, mainly buyers, from scammers. Remember the horror stories of buying something, not receiving it, and by the time you file a claim the funds are withdrawn and bank account closed so there's no recourse because Paypal can't reverse the transaction? This makes that less likely to happen. The only thing that bugs me about it is that you can't use the payment to pay for shipping.

Also if you want to get funds released faster enter the tracking number or delivery confirmation number in the transaction list on Paypal. Once it's been delivered according to the shipper you can call them and ask them to release the funds and they do it instantly, doing this means you don't have to wait a few more days or for the buyer to leave feedback.

I have had some released instantly and some held and there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason for it.

Usually I leave stuff on forums for about a week before trying elsewhere.

Just some personal input on this based on recent experience:

I've sold a few items on eBay in the alst few weeks. The first one was my first sale in quite a while, the funds were held for a few days then released. The second item I sold the funds were available instantly. Neither shipping label was created through Paypal although I did enter tracking numbers (USPS delivery confirmation really) both time. So I don't know what criteria they use exactly but the funds can be released immediately.

I always use eBay and Paypal to print shipping tags, and I have never had a hold on funds. They just want to be sure it has been shipped. If the shipping number is not from their system, it is almost as good as no number at all. There isn't a team of people checking tracking numbers to release funds, that is why they wait for a positive feedback, as a confirmation of successful delivery. I wouldn't say it is eBay and Paypal screwing you, it is a matter of knowing the system to avoid hassles.

I am not a big fan of eBay either. The "insertion fee's" are ridiculous. The "Paypal fee" is ridiculous. The "Final Value Fee" is ridiculous. If I sell a 40 dollar game or a 5000 dollar computer, the ONLY thing that I should pay is the Insertion Fee and 'possibly' any PP fee's.

What I want to know is why the f*** eBay thinks that based on what a item sells for, that they should get a slice of THAT pie as well! I will NEVER sell anything on eBay and frankly, I prefer to buy from elsewhere whenever I can....at least places that don't charge sales tax.

RoC, payment based on sales price is pretty standard with any auction house. Always jas been. All the way from Christie's to Barrett Auto. Generally it's listed as a "Buyers Premium". and the buyer is responsible for paying the fees.

It's sad how ebay has turned into a pain in the *** now of days. I too am waiting for paypal to release my funds and will probably have to wait a full 3 weeks before they release them.

I remember when ebay first came out and it was a good place to sell the stuff you did not need anymore. Now it is all about profits for them and filtering out all the scammers.

If you want a good experience selling your stuff use the forums here, I have never had an issue with buying or selling anything on the forums here and will continue to use them.

I guess the "hold money" thing is just for the free account holders? I have never had funds held for me. (Of course I have also had my account for years, and never had any any issues as a seller)

On a side note, there are free alternatives like ocbay that no one ever uses :(

I only ship to confirmed Paypal addresses as a strict policy and have never had funds held for any amount or any reason. I don't know if this is related or simply because I have been a Paypal user just about since its inception with no complaints against me.

F both ebay and paypal. I dont get my money instantly either now, but they can withdraw it from my bank account instantly, go figure.

FYI - if they hold funds and you've entered a tracking number in to Paypal (assuming you didn't print the label through Paypal) but the funds were not released upon delivery confirmation you can call them and they release the funds immediately.

How exactly did you get ripped off?

I wonder if people don't realize that this system is meant to specifcally counter the chances of getting ripped off. A (seller) scammer cannot withdraw funds from Paypal and then close the bank account to prevent any chance of a clawback and put the buyer s.o.l. It might suck a little as a seller but I think that's a reasonable reason to do this - I know we've all heard the stories of 'Paypal said there was no money to get back from the seller so I lost out.'
