seems to me that the retail chips are more likely to be cbbid than oem...i got my chip 10 days ago retail from newegg CBBID 0451FPCW

I ordered a 3000 winchester OEM from Newegg I think the first week of February. It was a CBBID 0451EPAW. I don't think I'm going to put thermal paste on my cpus anymore. It's too messy, and too expensive.

Say again.......

Exactly what are you planning on using?

If you dont put some form of TIM on ..your just looking for things to go POOF!

I hope you were only kidding.

Larry

nope i wasn't kidding. I'm sure the contact between the cpu and the heatsink is good enough. The thermal grease seems so think that I don't think it would help much.

Direct contact is NOT good enough!

Stop..Do NOT pass go...

I don't care if you lap the HS to a mirror....

Properly applied TIM is MANDATORY!

Even the "Pads" that Intel and AMD offer on their retail CPU's is better than NONE!

You have nothing but AIR..and trust me..it is air...that is forming the function of TIM!

But...Smoke em if you've got em.

This has been shown many times over to produce poor/dangerous temps - thermal material must be used, either a pad or grease. People have tried everything around here, so you wouldn't be the first, and it isn't a great idea.

The 3200+ retails I've seen lately from the egg have all been cbbid's... I might see if there is anywhere that I can cherry pick, but I really don't know cleveland that well yet. :-/

pm me... i live in orange, near solon.... life-long resident of cleveland area. i can tell you about a couple of local vendors... :)

I bought a 3000+ from ncix.com. ordered it on febuary 15th.

CBBHD 0450UPGW

it's the retail version.

Hey LS7,

why is your MoBo stucking at 265*9 ?
Others can clock higher with the A8V ?

I just recieved an OEM 3000+ from the egg, shipped from New Jersy: CBBID 0503. I haven't got it running yet as I am awaiting an XP-120 from CrazyPC. Tomorrw the the adventure shall begin.

I have 2 x CBBID 0503 AFPW and they both SUCK. Both only get to 2300 at 1.45V. This is compared to my 3200 that does 2600 at the same voltage. The best weeks apparently are those that were made 0441 to 0448.
