I have been out of the intel loop now for a while, and now my mother wants me to build her a new computer using a P4 chip. Since I haven't kept up, somethings are a little confusing so I am seeking your advice.

C, E, ? what is this?

This machine will be used for photo's, web, and desktop publishing. What CPU/Board would you recomend?

Last question, for RAM, I have always used corsiar or crucial, is there a special ram for this machines, or will any PC2700-PC3500 chips do?

Thanks alot!

I would recommend AMD over Intel for what your mother is going to be doing, along with MSI or Asus for the mainboard. I would just go with standard chips for memory, get 512mb of PC3200 since your mother isn't doing any gaming :). Anyways, If you have money, get the 2.4 P4 with HT 800FSB, with ASUS P4P800 Deluxe if you want to spend some extra cash and keep the PC3200 if you want. Hope that helps.

yeah I told her that she should go with AMD as well, but she insists on Intel. So thats what brings me here.

A = 400FSB
B = 533FSB
C = 800FSB
E = 800FSB Prescott with 1MB L2 Cache (runs HOT though)

I'd recommend a 2.4C - very good CPU's and will certainly handle her tasks.

mobo - either abit AI7 or P4P800

PC3200 would be perfect.
