When installing a new mobo? I've heard yes i've heard no ? Thanks everyone!

Depends on the situation. Will the 2 mobo's use the same drivers, etc. If they are too different, I find things just go smoother with a reformat. If I'm going from one BX to another ( same Intel inf. BM-ide stuff like that) then generally there"s no need.

With what OS?

I've went Intel TX to VIA MVP3, to BX, to SIS 630 back to BX, without reformatting with Win98 just to see if it could be done
(done bx to via with win2000 too) and it can!

if you are using win95(heaven forbid!!) you won't have a choice.

however, my recommendation is and always WILL be to reformat Win9x/2xxx whenever you switch something major like a Motherboard regardless of which chipset.

I just upgraded my dead Abit bh6 (BX chipset) to a Soyo SY6VCA (Via 694(?) Chipset) and Win 98 (first Ed) wouldn't start.

Very strange seeing as the upgrade path from a BX to a KT133 went smoothly, until Win98 (Installed from same CD- different licences, tho) discovered the Voodoo 2 card was missing.
