A while back, when I knew absolutely nothing about PCs, I was told that if I reformat often (like every 4 to 8 months) then my HDD's lifetime would cut or I would get general errors or sector errors.

Is this true?

Thanks :)

That is false.

Formatting does nothing bad to my knowledge. There shouldn't be any reason to format every 4 months either...

Alright, thanks for the reply :)

It's more in the middle anyway, around every 6 months I reformat, I just like it fresh and also seems to speed up considerably in my eyes.

nahh .. from how i understand it ... its just like writing to the drive one more time .. so i dont think it is a factor in worrying if its ok or not .. maybe on the slightest but i wouldnt sweat it

you should be more concerned with heat edit: (of the harddrives) instead of a full rewrite every 6 months
