as you may or may not know i FINALLY got my other comptuer set up so that i can share the internet over the lan with my 56k

i was wondering is there any good free software i can use to control the second comptuer

only becuase its in another one of my family memebers rooms and i do all my tweaking at night and i dont want to wake them up.

is there anyway to have its desktop show up on my monitor over the lan

thanks

Try VNC, its free. It runs in the system try and doesn't use much resources.

I control 3 machines with it on my home network.

does it work with 2k ( both computers) i have admin access to both

i gave it a quick once over the only thing i saw was linux stuff ( .tar)

its tired so i could also just be stupid

where do you get the windows host and client?

It works with 2k ok. I found it was best installed as a service.

Select 2k on this form , too download the windows version.

yes i noticed that like 5 min before loging on to the forums
like previously state short term ( i hope) idocy (sp)set in due to extreme lack of sleep
now i just have to wait till im home to install it

cool i got it working

thank you guys so much

only onnnnnnnnnne small problem

to start a session

lets say im on cpu#1 and i want to control cpu#2

i have to set cpu#1 to listen mode and go over to cpu#2 and start up the service

witch kinda eliminates the point if you ask me

is there anyway to put cpu#2 on stand by mode
and i can pull up the scree of cpu#2 when i need it.

so i dont have to go over there and set it up?

There are two ways to do that.

1. You could add the listen mode shortcut to the startup group.
2. Install WinVNC as a service.

Either of those will have VNC running in the sytem tray for you, this is how I use it.

After you get it started as a service there is another way to control the remote computer. Use your web browser. here is what you type.: http://Main:5801/

Main is the name of the computer and the 1 at the end is the default # given by VNC. I use 2 on one of my rigs so it would be: 5802

Hope this helps.
