I need to do this according to the epox guys
to see which chipset I have on my 8kta3+

I'm presuming it's not the cpu but the chipset itself

How do I get the thing off... those two little white toggles... what do they do?? I can only unscrew the fan

Welcome To The Forums!!!!!

.....and to the addiction:eek:

I have attached a picture of what you need to remove. The HSF circled with RED is what you need to take out. The YELLOW ones need to detached, the 2 conected to the HSF need to be pinched from behind so that they let go of the HSF. The one connected to the wire is your power cable.

Or you can just tell them it's the KT133A chipset:D

Post in the proper Topic next time. I'm sure they will help you.

northbridge heatsink

The white things are probably spring clips. You'll need to be able to squeeze the part of those on the backside of the motherboard in order to get them to release. And the hsf is probably glued onto the northbridge as well.

Edit: Beat me by a few seconds, Sonny. Out-did me with that pic, too!

Thanks for your time
I figured I had to get to the back of my mboard
Too hard with my case .. major surgery

Seems inefficient anyway that I have to investigate to see if the chip set is silver or black (black supposedly will run xp)

I've tried telling them I had the A chipset but they really want me to open that sucker... I thought the A was the new revision and that would work... it's only a year old and the manual says A chipset
mind you it also says 266 bus and I'm not convinced..

I updated then bios last night... all went fine

I'm going to purchase a 1800 xp try it out and If that doesn't work I'll wait and get a new mb ..

Can I actually hurt the chip or mb if it doesn't support the chip??

whats the CFM rating on that little fan? i want to replace it ,seems weak ......what size is it also?

NB fan

Most are 40mm fans with very little airflow. What might be better is to put a fan and blow hole in the side of the case, blowing at your cpu hsf and the NB area. Putting some good thermal goop on the NB would also help (because many are just glued on), but be careful doing surgery in that area. I knocked a resistor off the backside of my AK31 doing just that.
