Hey guys, what do i use to remove the old thermal compound from my cpu...? There is also some excess that oozed out on the ceramic, should i remove that as well or just leave it ? ALSO, what item do i use to apply the remover...( q-tip, toothpic, rag or what?)

Tks fellas..

Oh yeah, one more thing...
I'll be getting my FOP38 tomorrow and gonna lap it. How much artic silver do i apply....? Do i put it on the cpu only or on both the h/s and the cpu...? Again...what do i use to aplly the artic s. ??

just thought of something...how long do i have to let the Artic Silver sit before re-assemling...?

See "Why solvent and a rag will not remove all of the thermal grease from your HS."

Artic Silver needs no set time.

WOW...that was intense, tks for the link. It gave me a good understanding, but yet it didn't answer all of my questions....

what about the factory paste that oozed out onto the ceramic, do i remove it or leave it....if so can the cleaner to be used damage the ceramic?

actually-you can just wipe the xcess off with a sorft , no lint rag! To apply the paste i used a qtip and it worked perfectly. And yes i left a little on the edge of the ceramic, in between the die and the ceramic and my chip is FINE!!
