Has anyone replaced the heatspreader on the 9700 voltage regulator with a better heatsink?

How did you remove the metal plate? Did you mill out the replacement heatsink to avoid the areas cut out of the original heatspreader? Any O/C or stability benefit from doing it?

Also, does anyone have any pics of the board with the plate removed? If so, could you post it and point out which chips the heatspreader is cooling.

I have a heatsink cut to fit in that area, but it doesn't seem optimal to attach it to that existing plate. BTW - I have a v1.0 9700np, so the heatspreader is not attached with the pushpins.

i just used thermal tape to put a small chipset heatsink on the heatspreader. it get's pretty warm so i assume it's working just fine.
