I really don't feel like making a res for my new watercooling system. So I was wondering what are the advantages/disadvantages to having no res vs. having one.

I think, but am not sure, that it's for evaporation purposes. If you have a resevoir you don't need to keep checking the water level and refilling it.With a res you eliminate the necessity of running a fill line off of a tee with some sort of plug on the end.

Some popular arguements are you gain water temp by 1 deg by your pump, and stuff like that.

I feel if you have a large enough res, it will keep the pump cool anyways, as well as with a good radiator.

YOu don't have to bleed a reservoir system - as long as the pump is submersed, air bublbles will get worked out easier, and faster. You won't have to refill as much.

Disadvantage worth noting - takes up room depending on size.

Yea a res system is easier to get started than a in line. If your new go with the res and if you dont like it switch to inline. THats just my opinion.

All things considered, you are probably better off
without a reservoir i.e. an inline system. Bleeding the
inline systems is not that much trouble.

In practice both methods are fine, but do you want
a container of water setting in your PC when it
accomplishes essentially nothing after the initial
setup? :D

I have an external Rez system. Its about 3/4 of a gallon of liquid in a 1 gallon tupperware kind of sealed. Anyway one advantage I find with the rez (though I haven't used a T-line) is that it keeps more connections out of your computer (if you have it outside). So just in case some weird freak accident happens where a hose leaks or something like that, more of the connections are not going to damage any components.

Secondly, I have read that the water absorbs some of the sound from the pump. So if you have the pump in the water thats good.

If you have an internal rez, and the pump is inline and not in the rez, then those two arguments mean nothing.

It just seems easier to do it this way though. I like having the pump in the rez because it makes the first minute where it cycles through A LOT easier. And it minimizes any damage caused by the pump cutting itself up on air.

I'm no proffesional at this, but I hope my experience helps.
