I got my danner from petsmart. Before I put it in my system though, I sealed it with RTV silicone just as a precaution. It's been running for 5 months non-stop and I can barely hear it. And it hasnt leaked yet. There isnt really a better pump for the price, IMO.

oh, and STICKY.

Is the Iwaki submersible? More specifically, is the pump housing, or the majority of it, sealed? If so, you can have the Iwaki drive a CPU loop inline, but house it in a reservoir that is on a loop that cools your other components (NB, GPU, HDD, etc.). This would cool the pump without using an extra fan, and might dampen any extra sound, so a quiet setup gets even quieter.

Great job putting this info together man. Hopefully someone will use the SEARCH button and find your thread instead of asking questions about these pumps.

I know, it's wishful thinking.

Cheaper than- and tops(or equals) the Eheim 1250's performance.
Only CON would be a little less reliabile than Eheim (due to history), I would put them almost on par in that respect.

they are not less reliable. its just that the ehiem pumps have been around for many years so many people trust the name just like dremel. dremel is definately not the best but its a good solid company that has been around for like almost 100 years

Reread the title of this thread :p (hint: the key word starts with a "B")

Hmm :) In my dictionary "Expensive" starts with a "E"
Hmm, maybe the title of the thread is wrong?
Did you mean the three most expensive pumps?? :)

Well, we all have different opinions on whats "Best" thats all.

Best, as in pumping capacity the Eheim 1250 and Hydor L30 are quite alike.

Best, as in price, the eheim gets sooo spanked.

Best, as in longlivity the Hydor might be bested by eheim. just might...

Otherwize this is a splendid thread, thank enlightend!

Thorlian : Yeah, that too, I just don't want to bash Eheim, they make excellent pumps, but too pricey. I'd have to say though, the first line of L30 with the ceramic shaft had some quality problems. Some axles cracked pretty soon.
I love my Hydors, and for the price I would never trade them for Eheims.

Is there a big difference between the Danner Mag #3 and the #5? Price difference is like $10 so...?

I have been using my danner 3 that I got at a petsmart for 10 months. No leaks and I cannot hear it over case fans. Only thing I noticed is if you have had it off for a while sometimes when you start it up it will rattle a little but if you turn it on and off a few times with 5 seconds between each it will act right.

I have to say, good review. I own a ehiem 1250, and it's quiet in the case, when using a ac soft window sealer. Just put that under it and it's very quiet.
