Man thats *horrible* I cant belive people are willing to charge their player that much :-/ Newest minidiscs get almost 110hrs

I never listen to my iPod more than 12 hours straight because I either get home or I get to a place where I have my dock or wall adapter so that is never a problem. Haven't had experience with this particular mp3 player but the mp3 player is undeniably the future trend (obviously based on sales indicating massive popularity). We'll be seeing less of removable disk based music players and more of harddrive based music players since they are more convenient in the sense of no disc swapping.

id have to say md players are limited in the capacity they can carry. im not saying their battery life isnt great, but for someone with alot of music an mp3 player is the answer.

You don't sound very knowledgeable about HDD based portable music players - take a look around and you will see that this should not be any surprise.

Minidisc players have completely different demands.

HDD based players are nice as far as size goes, the only thing i dont like is that its a HDD so they will eventually fail (moving parts) flash players will truelly last. or so my dad says :p

yeah its a different kind of product. you bring it home and plug it in. just like your cell phone. 20 hours is good. the regular ipods have <12 hours.

by the time your hard drive fails, they'll be something much much better on the market.

Your right:D Im not. However as a consumer I really dont see that as peticularly good despite what it is.

Quite honestly, I think you really have to own one to see the benefits. It doesn't look that great on paper but the ability to have every piece of music at your hands is really great plus, it seems like many more music video players are coming out now too. I for one cannot wait for the PSP and a drop in music video player prices sometime (they are rather expensive ATM). It's a matter of convenience.

battery life is pretty good for this player.
on my mini disc I get 17-18 contin. play:(
My battery looks cool though. It's like a gumstick.
I own the Mz-NH1, and the 1gb are pretty cool
the disks are the best, just like on the first matrix they just look bad ***:)

Whats wrong with people these days, the cd player I use is an inch thick, feels like a brick, takes 4 AA batteries, and only lasts about 5 hours. I have ones that last longer, but this is the one I like. The site is down right now, Comp-U-Plus also has this, it is $164-$20 MIR, and the MIR does not look specific to Comp-U-Plus, so it is worth a shot.

Bah, you whippersnappers complain too much. Back in the day of the MZ-R55 I got a massive 4 hours playback on a gumstick battery and maybe an hour of recording. With the 2AA addon and gumstick I got 10 hours. :p Ah and it set me back $450 at the time :-/ I still think it´s appearance is better than that of any current MD recorder/player on the market. Fine maybe not compared to the NH1 but it beats the nh900 by far in looks. :p

the new minidiscs holds a gig, but u can put alot more songs on there cus of their format. i have a mindisc and a mini Ipod. i use the ipod more cus its impossible to look over the songs in my MD, its got 2 lines of LCD. but it does save batteries if u play the stuff and the worst setting.

Your right, but I own a flash based RIO had it for about 3+ years now, use it several times a week. Problem is other parts start to wear out, like the battery, and the headphone input. I can see in a HDD based player other parts wearing out like the battery before the HDD fails from over use.

Nobody sees the irony???

You can either have something that holds very little music with LOTS of battery life or you can have something that holds A TON of battery music with crap for battery life.

:wtf:

Or you can compromise and get the Rio which does both. ;)

The older iPods' battery life blows, and when the Rio and the iPod Mini came out, the Mini had one less gig of space and about 12 less hours of battery (the newer versions are 6GB now and claim 18 hours of runtime).

This is a slick deal that I've seen from a couple of stores online now. The rebate is good on purchases through 3/31/05.

I bought my girlfriend one for her birthday (turning her into a technophile *evil grin*), and now I want it back. lol.

The ONLY major caveat I have with the unit is the case ... it makes all functions other than volume inaccessible, and there's no way to carry it other than hold it in your hand or put it your pocket. That's one thing the iPods have going for them ... tons of accessories.

There is, however, a very nice case made by Vaja for the Carbon, but it retails for around $60, I think. Crazy, but it's nice.

If I had the money, I'd buy this mp3 player for everyone I know ... I just love it that much. Sexy little devil.

For a rechargeable player 20 hours is great battery life. So what if a minidisc can last 110 hours. Odds are it runs off of multiple AAA or AA batteries which hold a surprisingly large charge. Rechargeables never last as long but damn, just plug it in every night and what's the problem?

And minidisc is a format that is just waiting to die :D I'm amazed it's held on so long.
