I guess if one is handicapped and cannot use caution, then Brake Cleaner might be a problem. But for me it has been a winner for 1.5 decades now and I keep some on hand along with my air compressor. Strokes for folks is always the way of things.

Yes electronic contact cleaner that is safe for plastics might be better for one who put the thermal compound on the cpu socket and pins in the first place.

Use this many times, usually on Copper surfaces and inside water blocks after I take them apart for cleaning.

Not a bad suggestion. I don't think it'll "melt" plastic without overnight soaking, but it will however dry the plastic out making it brittle. Other than that brake clean is ok for some things handled with care :thup:
