Hi there!
Would appreciate if you could advise something regarding my problem with iGPU driver issues on Windows 11. I mean it seems to me it's iGPU related but I'm not sure. Several days after building PC and Windows installation it started to act strange - freezing, black screens etc.

I tried to reinstall Windows and use Drivers from official Website for Mobo and CPU. But during Adrenalin 24.7.1 driver installation and after my monitor blinks, turns black, I see different artifacts, sometimes PC freezes completely including BSOD.

One thing that can help - I have 2 totally similar Computers using iGPU. On the 1st I have these issues, on the 2nd one - everything is fine. The 2nd PC (working properly) - the iGPU driver is Version 31.0.24028.3. Seems like It was installed by Windows Update but I'm not sure.
Unfortunately I did not have time yet to try Adrenalin 24.7.1 on the 2nd (working) PC to test whether it works well with these drivers.

* I always use DDU before the next GPU driver installation attemp

  1. Could you please inform whether there is a difference what driver to use - from Windows Update, AMD website (driver only or with Adrenalin) or extra software like my MSI Mobo has?
  2. Could you also inform whether it's normal to face with such incompatibility or I should send PC components back to the shop? I have time left to turn-over my purchase.
  3. Can Monitor driver installation make any difference in this regard?

Specs are:
  • Ryzen 5 7600X
  • MSI PRO B650-S WIFI
  • 16x2 6000 DDR5 Kit (QVL list+)
  • 2K Monitor 160hz - working on 100hz now

2nd (working) PC iGPU current driver:
  • Driver provider - AMD
  • Driver date - 12.03.2024
  • Driver Version - 31.0.24028.3
I also plan to:
  • check the BIOS of the working PC and to try use the same with the broken one;
  • try installing Adrenalin 24.7.1 driver on the working PC instead of Version 31.0.24028.3 and see what happens;
  • check / reinstall the RAM
  • try lowering Monitor refresh rate before driver installation, dunno whether that matters

Big Thanks in advance!

A thought for me is to remove the drivers on the machine that isn't working and let MS updates take care of it. If it works, it saves you from having to make your other machine potentially go bad.

Otherwise, get a driver that is older or newer and see if the problem persists. This would help to rule the hardware in or out.

Thank you for joining me!

I've already started to tests with the Working PC trying to DDU old iGPU driver, installing newest Adrenalin driver from AMD website and Monitor driver - everything is working fine and 144hz can be selected in windows within 2K resolution.

Then we passed to the Problem PC and checked RAM - found strange glass fibre piece looking like tiny hair in one of the RAM slots close to the outer wall of the slot. Removed it and now trying to boot but still face with black screen / freezing.

Trying to boot with 1 RAM stick but not in the recommended 2nd slot (where we found that inclusion) but the 4th one. Don't know whether it can be done by that since the MSI recommends to use 2nd slot for 1 stick of RAM.
Still can't understand what inclusion was that - whether it's from the factory or it's me somehow...

Do you find it as a serious damage?
Can I use 1 Ram stick in any slot I want there or it can damage PC?

Screenshots before / after inclusion removal enclosed.

Thanks a lot!

I don't think having RAM in the "wrong" slot will do any damage. It's more of a question about it working but not damage.

If you suspect an issue with RAM, run a memtest86+. Or another program. It's been a long time since I've had to test RAM but memtest86+ runs outside of Windows or other OS. You can install two sticks of RAM, run the test. If it fails, swap the sticks and test again. You can get a feel for which stick is bad based on where you get the error. E.G. If you have 2x4GB and the error happens at 3 or 5 GB, you can get a feeling for which stick failed. If it fails at the same spot for each test, your slot may be defective.

Thank you for your advice well appreciated!

I had some experience with memtest86 outside windows within bootable USB stick and TestMem5 (extreme@anta777 profile).

Trying to fix Windows somehow, cause it's totally unusable right not - freezing all the way.
Maybe will try to reinstall it considering opportunity of corruption of Windows installation within this Ram Slot issue (in case it affected it somehow).

I'd do the memory test first. Might save you some time and trouble. Memtest does not require the OS.

We've tried everything we could but every time we get random "locks"/freezes, especially when we put ethernet cable in after windows installation and PC starts to update drivers.

We even tried to loose the CPU Cooler pressure in case it was bolt too hard and provided bad contact between cpu socket legs & CPU itself.
Send all 3 parts (CPU / Mobo / RAM) back to the shop asking them to test it properly - too hard to do it at home without extra spare parts.

Thanks for your help @don256us !

I'm using a 7600X and an ASROCK B650 PG Lightning and I probably found the same symptoms.

I was able to go beyond the logon screen when I disabled HDMI2.0support from UEFI.

In this state, the screen becomes abnormal during or immediately after installing ADRENALINE. There are two types of error dialogs at that time: "Incompatible/Driver timeout".

After this state, when I restart, the logon screen goes black 100% of the time.

The screen still freezes as if there is insufficient memory, but the screen output returns any number of times if I wait 10 seconds.

I looked up the manual for MSI's MSI PRO B650-S WIFI motherboard, but there was no similar option with the same name.

Indirectly changing the memory speed or iGPU voltage did not improve it much, and I also tried replacing the HDMI cable, but it did not improve even with a cable that normally outputs 4K120Hz with the 3080ti.

Please use this as a reference. 1723903025046.png
