s-ata raid

the ASUS A7V8X says it has s-ata raid, now obviously there aren't any hds with sata yet, so is it just useless until then, or is them some way to get way ata100s raided on there?

you can get a serial-ata to parallel-ata dongle, they exist and shouldnt be too expensive, though im not sure where you can buy them seperately yet. so no, its not a pointless feature, just have to get that dongle for now or just wait for serial-ata drives.

well, where can i get a "dongle" (???) . . . you don't have any idea? you said you dont know where you can buy them separately, but what do you mean, separately from what?

You can buy S-ATA to IDE adaptors from

They are made by abit and are for use on any SATA board.
Not cheap though at around £20 each.

you could get the board, and use an el-cheapo pci ide adaptor untill you can get s-ata drives.

are serial ata devices limited to 2 per channel? If not, you could have a much larger RAID array! Big advantage. Anyone know?

serial ata is limited to 1 device per connection on the controler (ie 2 s-ata ports can use a max of 2 s-ata drives).

Bummer. Too bad they didn't figure a way around that limitation. Hmmm... Wonder if hard drives will be sata and CD ROM & DVD drives will continue to be IDE? Or will they go SATA, too? I've not seen anything about sata cd's and dvd drives yet.
