Im looking for a ATI vid card to replace my 9500pro. THe 9500pro is going to replace the built in vid on my shuttle xpc. I want a pgrade in my main rig but dont want to go over $250, so was thinking 9700pro, 9700np, 9800np, mabey even 9600xt. This will probably be the last vid card upgrade i make on the AGP standard so it will need to last a few years :) I was thinking if i can find a good price on the 9800np it mite be the way to go.

Thanks

cant seem to find a good price on a 9800np. Only one i seem to find is $270. 9800 pros are not much more than that :(. 9700pros i see for $230, and 9600xt for $180(is that really any better than a 9500 pro :p). Which is best bag for the buck? Will be ocing the bugger :)

Thanks

The 9600XT will not really be faster than the 9500Pro. A 9800NP will give lots and lots of overclocking headroom -- most will hit Pro speeds without a hitch.

However, I don't think it will be a big enough step up for you to justify $200-300, unless you get a good deal on a real 9800Pro. IMHO, of course. :) I got a refurb Ultimate Edition for $275, so if you hunt around, you may be able to find a regular 9800Pro for $250ish. But if you're not hurting, your best bet is probably to wait until next spring when the new cards come out, and pick up a 9800Pro then, when the prices on them start to drop.

I would say that the only worthwhile upgrade from a 9500 would be to go the 9800 route.... 9600, though a great DX9 card, has half the pipeline of your current card, and the 9700 is getting outdated with the newer gamer available/soon-to-be-available. That said, I would def. consider making the leap to a 9800 np or better, budget allowing.

eXcaliberPC.com is selling the BBA 9800 Pro 128MB for $278.

Now is the best time to jump on such deals. The 9800 Pro is about to go the way of the 9700 Pro. ATI has already announced that they will stop producing 9800 Pro's under their BBA label. It's only a matter of time before Sapphire and other companies stop as well. The 9800XT is seen as the single successer to both the 9800 Pro 128MB and DDR2 256MB.

$278, not bad guess the extra cash will be worth it. Any idea what ram the ATI 9800 pro uses?

The BBA 9800 Pro's come with Samsung 2.86ns memory.:D
