how the hell is a 1:1 resolution a ws tv?

no thanks, nothing to see here. MUCH better could have been had on BF.

I see 16:9. And since BF is 1 year way now, this may or may not be a good deal. I personally do not care for Plasma TVs and prefer projectors.

* 16:9 aspect ratio
* 1000:1 Contrast ratio
* 16 million colors
* 1100 cd/m2 brightness
* True XGA Display Capability (over 1,000,000 pixels)

Not the greatest specs but for the price it's not that bad of a unit for people who want to go High Def for a low cost. BTW pixels are not square but rectangular like they would be with a Trinitron.

The physical size of the screen is 16:9, but the resolution isn't. Its basicaly a square that's stretched out.

That TV can do neither 720p (1280x720) nor 1080i(1920x1080). It has a scaler in it that will read those signals and then scrunch it down to 1024x1024. One of two things happens then: 1. It looks screwed up 2. It looks better than SDTV but worse than true HDTV.

that resolution is funky...

1024 vertical is actually really good, but the 1024 horizontal is crap.

My Element 32" that I nailed at Home Depot does 1280x720... 720p (progressive HD). Also can do like 1366x768, but this plasma 42" monitor at woot won't even be able to do 720p since it can't do 1280 horizontal.

I could be wrong... even tho it's 720p/1080i compatible, that doesn't mean it'll look as good... it's just COMPATIBLE... that doesn't mean it can do it completely... again, i could be wrong, but i don't think i am. :D

yeah, it will SUPPORT those channels... as in, the channels will still work, but the quality won't be up to par...

Plasma resolutions vary; they typically come in 1024x1024 or 853x480. The difference between these two is the manner in which they display pixels. The main objective is to match the original pixel resolution to the display resolution. Most plasma displays have a 16x9 aspect ratio (wide-screen format), therefore based on their resolution, they will need to convert or interpolate the incoming signal to match with the display resolution. For example, a 42-inch plasma display with a 1024x1024 resolution will need to convert an incoming HDTV signal of 1080i, which has a native pixel resolution of 1920x1080. In order to match the HDTV signal with that of the 42” 1024x1024 and produce a 16x9 aspect ratio, the plasma display will create rectangular pixels. The resulting image will be softened because the converter has to do more interpolating on the horizontally stretched pixel; however it will create better depth. Conversely, an 853x480 display has square shaped pixels; therefore, it will have much less horizontal conversions to produce a 16x9 aspect ratio and its resulting image will be much crisper.
