Sata conversion?

Question:
Is it possible to use the included serial ata converter with the onboard sata raid controller on nf7-s, with an existing windows installation?

I have a single 40 gb seagate and i want to use the serillial converter since it will use the smaller cable, restricting less airflow. is it possible to do this without reformating my drive? and say i do have to reformat my drive, will the controller accept a single drive for an array?

I have never used raid before, it would be so much easier if the onboard sata would replace the ata controller =\.

I will tell you i have done research and some people say that the adapter does not help, and sometimes slows down the transfer. I did not use mine. IF you don't care, and just want to use it for the airflow purpose i would just hook it up and boot, loading up the drivers and see if it works. IF it doesn't i doubt it will hurt anything. LMK

I did this and it works great. I cant remember if I had to load the SATA drivers before or after I plugged in the SATA-PATA cable or not.
Im using BIOS version 18

The way I had to do it was to use IDE first, and turn the SATA controller on. I installed the drivers for the controller while on IDE, then I could make the switch over to SATA.

You could also just install the SATA drivers when you do your windows install.

hmm. are the sata drivers available online right now? i do not have a floppy drive. its been sooo long since i used one
if i can get access to them online, ill try it out. one less wire from my wire mess would be lovely. Incidently, can you get these converters from abit? I kind of want to get another 40 gig seagate to use in raid. these drives are very quiet and reliable. i could go to barracuda 5, but that means i have to replace my primary drive too...

rofl. i get the drivers installed for the raid controller, then i find out that the converter for sata + the sata cable is too long for my case ha ha. the hard drives are mounted from the side on sleds and my wire mess is hidden behind the cage... its about a full centimeter over the side and i cant close the case... bleh.

how much are barracude v's? <_<
