Are SATA drives significantly faster than ATA 133 drives? If yes are they worth and extra 20-30 bucks?

the only one faster is the western digital raptors 10,000rpm's.
and they are alot more than $20-$30 more.
the current sata drives are 7200rpm but are just basically an ide drive with converters on it.
the raptor is actually a scsi drive adapted to sata.
so who knows when we will ever see a true sata drive.

aside from the raptor they are the same speed.

Would getting a Maxtor Diamond Max 9 SATA drive be worth it?

that drive can be bought in either sata or ide configs.
first is if you have mobo support for sata as buying a pci sata card to run a drive like that is a waste.

its a gamble with buying any new technology is.it looks like the future is moving to sata but one really fast ide drive could change that.or higher pci bandwith and higher ata 150.

to me no its not worth the extra money at the moment.
if you want to still spend the $$$ and want someting fast and sata look at the raptors.

at the moment everything else is the same speed with differant cables is all.
