SATAII Drive on Asus P5LD2

I've just ordered some new components for my new PC build but I am uncertain if I ordered the wrong HD. The components are a AsusP5LD2, P4 640 Processor, 1G Corsair TWIN2X1024-5400C4,Gigabyte GeForce 6600GT, WD SE16WD2500KS SATAII drive.
Can I use this SATAII as the primary drive in my system with my old WD 80G IDE as my second drive?
I've built several PCs but I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to drives.
Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, it will do fine, the Intel ICH7 supports SATA II.

Any recommendations on the best way to optimize these 2 drives via BIOS, jumper settings, or partition sizes?

SATA drives don't require jumper settings.

I can't remember the config in the bios on that board. I set it up for a friend but don't own it myself.

Set it to run in Enhanced Mode. Make sure you install the chipset drivers when in Windows.

Partition sizes, that is a personal preference and depends on how you use your PC.
